Sawan 2023: StoryAs per Hindu scriptures, it is believed that at the time of Samudra Manthan Lord Shiva drank all the poison which have come out of ocean. Lord Shiva drank it as it had the ability to destroy the whole world. Lord Shiva rescued the world and all the living beings by drinking all the poison and kept it in his throat. That's why he is known as Neelkantha. After this, all the demons and deities offered Ganga Jal and milk to Lord Shiva so that the effect of that dangerous poison could be reduced. This all happened during Sawan Month and that is the reason why people bring Ganga Jal from various places and offer it to Lord Shiva and drinking milk during Sawan is prohibited.
